ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) -

A local nonprofit is hoping you're in the giving spirit this holiday season.

The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign officially kicked-off Tuesday morning.

The annual fundraiser began with the help of La Crosse area banks and credit unions for 'Break the Bank Day'. Banks and credit unions sponsored the first day by ringing bells in La Crosse and Onalaska.

The Coulee Chordsmen performed Christmas classics at the Onalaska Shopko Red Kettle location.

"I always say, 'Change goes in, change comes out.' Doesn't matter if it jingles or if it's paper, obviously we'll take all the support we can get, but every little bit helps,” said La Crosse Salvation Army Major Jeff Richardson.

There will be more than 30 Red Kettle locations in La Crosse County through Christmas Eve.

This year's fundraising goal is $1-million, their biggest goal yet.
