LA CROSSE, Wis. -

The Scenic Bluffs Chapter of the American Red Cross is encouraging more community members to donate blood to help those in need, including people affected by Superstorm Sandy.

The Red Cross said the storm forced the cancellation of hundreds of blood drives along the East Coast, which resulted in a shortfall of thousands of donations.

Blood drives out East are being restored in the affected areas, but the Red Cross said the need for blood donations continues.
