LA CROSSE, Wis. -

A new walking trail being built between La Crosse and Onalaska promises not to leave you down in the dumps.

The two cities are working with the County landfill to put up a walking trail surrounding it. A half mile section has already been paved and they're working on more.

Fittingly, much of the path is made with two types of recycled materials including some from last year's storm damage.

"On the base of the trail concrete is used that has been ground up, so that's recycled, and on the top of the trail that you see the asphalt, it is incorporated 5% shingles from our community... shingles that are not going into the landfill," said the county's Solid Waste Director Hank Koch.

Part of the cost for the trail is coming out of the $25,000 a year the landfill provides to the cities for landscaping.
