LA CROSSE, Wis. -

Parents had the opportunity Tuesday night to learn more about the effects of bullying on their children.

A specialist from Gundersen Lutheran presented at Aquinas High School, sharing information and statistics about bullying and cyber-bullying.

Dr. Jeff Reiland says more than one in three students will have experienced bullying by the time they graduate. And he says, that can be detrimental to the students while in school such as causing anxiety, insecurities and ruining social relationships.

Dr. Reiland also told parents, bullying can be very damaging to a person in the long run. "Because of their fear of being bullied, it can be impairing for their careers, it can be imparing for their future and how they interact and relate to other people, how they trust and form relationships with friends in the future," said Dr. Reiland.

He also says it's important for parents to be involved in their child's life and not be afraid to ask questions.
