TOWN of CAMPBELL, Wis. -

Town of Campbell police arrested three men on Monday night in connection to an active methamphetamine manufacturing lab at an apartment on the 1700 Block of La Crescent Street.

Ricky Arentz, 49, Samuel Welda, 46, and Edward Lord, 47, face multiple charges in connection to this case.

At about 5:30 p.m. on Monday, police got a complaint about suspicious drug activity. Police say when they tried to talk to Welda outside of an apartment, he immediately ran away. Officers ran after Welda and used a stun gun to assist them in his arrest. Welda admitted he was under the influence of methamphetamine when arrested.

Investigators found an active methamphetamine manufacturing lab was operating out of an apartment at 1738 La Crescent Street, a single bedroom efficiency rented by Ricky Arentz. After Arentz gave police consent to search his apartment, officers found hypodermic needles, methamphetamine and methamphetamine being cut up on a dinner plate. Police later found a lab being operated under the kitchen sink of the apartment. Arentz told police he let Welda manufacture methamphetamine in his apartment four to six times since November 2012.

On Monday night, the apartment was evacuated, along with adjacent apartments of the 8-plex. Police found a container of hazardous methamphetamine chemical byproduct sitting just outside the front door of the apartment.

Trained agents from the State Wisconsin Divison of Criminal Investigation (DCI) responded from Eau Claire to neutralize the clandestine lab. DCI secured the chemicals outside, which remained under careful watch by a Campbell police officer until a DEA HAZMAT team arrived on Tuesday.

All three men appeared in La Crosse County Court for their bond hearing Tuesday afternoon. A judge set a $5,000 cash bond for Lord; a $5,000 signature bond for Arentz; and a $2,500 signature bond for Welda. All three men are scheduled to be back in court on Thursday.
