In honor of the almost 1,800 children involved in a child abuse report last year, a pinwheel was planted for each of those kids in the lawn at the YMCA in La Crosse Friday afternoon.
The Pinwheels for Prevention campaign is an effort to change the way communities think about prevention and encourage everyone to keep children safe.
The pinwheels at the corner of West Ave. and Main St. will serve as a month-long reminder that each child deserves a bright future.
"We know what the costs are when we don't invest in children early on. Given this, we hope everyone sees Child Abuse Prevention Month as a call to action to make child abuse and neglect prevention a priority," said Jeanne Meyer, program director at the Family and Children's Center's Stepping Stones child advocacy program.
The campaign is hosted by the Family and Children's Center and the Coulee Region Child Abuse Prevention Task Force.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention month.
