Pilot still in critical condition after Iowa crash
The 70-year-old pilot of a small plane that crashed in northwest Iowa over the weekend remains in critical condition.
Two passengers Gaylen Knaack was flying from Grand Island, Neb., died when the plane crashed short of a grass runway in foggy conditions south of Correctionville.
Authorities say 53-year-old Lee Schroeder, of Oto, and 55-year-old James Smith, of Correctionville, both died in the crash.
A hospital spokeswoman says Knaack remained hospitalized in critical condition at St. Elizabeth's burn center in Lincoln, Neb., Monday morning.
It's not yet clear if the fog contributed to the crash.
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are working to determine what caused the crash. FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Cory says the cause may not be clear for at least several months.
