The old club house at Forest Hills golf course in La Crosse is being demolished.

Parts of the club house date back to 1901, but today the building is rarely used and costs the city about $20,000 a year to sit empty.

Before major demolition started Monday, contractors recycled things like copper, brass and cement. And they had some help.

"We had the Amish working here too, they took out quite a bit of timber, they took off siding, so they were able to utilize a lot of the material too, I believe they had two or three boom trucks to haul material out," said Tony Pickering from Pickering Landscape Trucking.

Pickering says they should have the demo done by the end of the week. The city says they will wait until spring and then fill in the hole.
