INDEPENDENCE, Wis. -

The Independence Police Department says a pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle Wednesday night has died.

The Trempealeau County dispatch center received a 911 call about a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle on Washington Street just before 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.

When they arrived, authorities found an unresponsive female and started first aid.  Medical personnel arrived and started performing CPR on the victim.  She was taken to Tri-County Hospital in Whitehall, where she died from her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was given a legal blood draw.  It's standard procedure in fatal crashes.  The driver was interviewed and released.

Authorities say alcohol doesn't appear to be a factor in this crash.

No names are being released at this time.
