IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -

Five parking meter manufacturers competing for a contract with Iowa City are testing their work in the downtown area.

Parking meters from each competitor will be set up starting Monday. The meters will accept alternative methods of payment, including debit cards and credit cards.

Some meters will be multi-space systems where one meter will service up to 10 parking spaces. Others will feature the traditional one meter per parking space.

Residents are encouraged to give feedback to city officials, who will be stationed near the parking meters. The feedback, plus factors like cost and equipment durability, will determine a contract winner.

The parking meters will be in place until April 26. Permanent meters will be installed by July 1.
