People gathered at Riverside Park Sunday afternoon in remembrance of the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
Operation Homefront hosted a Freedom Walk to remember and honor the fallen.
Besides the walk, the event also featured reflective presentations and a water cannon salute.
Operation Homefront Board Patti Lokken member says even thought the events of 9/11 were far away from La Crosse it still had a profound impact on the community.
"I think people just related to what happened that day and it could have been any one of us. It could have happened anywhere in our nation and we relate to that and that particular day, all Americans learned how to mourn for people they've never met, " Lokken said.
Two shrines were on display during the event with one of them featuring an actual steel beam from one of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City that were destroyed in the attacks.
