Onalaska man accused of driving drunk, injuring passenger in rollover
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- An Onalaska man is accused of driving drunk and injuring a relative after rolling his car on Highway 35.
21-year-old Josiah Kemp was charged Tuesday with two felonies related to injuring someone by intoxcated use of a vehicle.
Police say Kemp was driving south on Highway 35 Sunday just after 3:30 a.m. when he lost control and rolled his Honda Civic down an embankment by Nutbush City Limits.
22-year-old Jakob Waite, a passenger in the vehicle, was trapped inside. Once rescue crews freed him, Waite was taken to Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse with what police described as a very serious head injury.
Waite was in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon. Kemp broke his arm in the accident.
Kemp told police he drank about six beers, the last one around midnight Sunday, before driving to his mother's home on the north side of La Crosse.
A preliminary breath test showed Kemp has a blood alcohol content of 0.103.
Kemp was released on a $10,000 signature bond. He is next scheduled to appear in court in February.
