Onalaska considers ordinance change allowing electronic billboards
ONALASKA, Wis. -- Onalaska officials are looking into changing the city's billboard ordinance to allow large electronic billboards. Those signs aren't allowed under the current ordinance.
Members of the City Plan Commission heard a presentation by Olympus Media Tuesday night on a proposal to put up two electronic billboards in the city. One would go up near Farm and Fleet, the other near the La Crosse Area Harley Davidson store.
City officials say changing the ordinance to allow for electronic billboards is something Onalaska should at least consider. "It's clearly an effective method of advertising. The placement of an electronic billboard is really very situational. It may work in one spot and not in another. I would advocate for strong public input," says Mayor Mike Giese.
If officials do decide to change the ordinance, residents will get a chance to weigh-in on it at public hearings.
