ONALASKA, Wis. -

An Onalaska family is trying to get back on their feet after their home was destroyed by a fire.
Firefighters were called to the nine-hundred block of 6th Avenue North Friday morning.

When they arrived on scene flames were already coming from the garage.
The home-owner, Jennifer Smith, and her two daughters were not at home at the time of the fire.
Firefighters say the home is a total loss and the cause is still under investigation

A late morning fire destroys an Onalaska home.

Firefighters were called out to 911 6th Avenue North in Onalaska at about 11:30 am.

When firefighters arrived on scene the garage was fully engulfed in flames.

No one was home at the time, however some firefighters narrowly escaped injuries.

"We had the ceiling come down and take three firefighters out. Foruntately, they were not injured and the electrical box had sparks to the point that the firefighters couldn't attack from that corner," said Onalaska Fire Chief Don Dominick

Firefighters aren't sure of the cause of the fire, but neighbors may have information that could help.

"First she heard a boom. When she looked out the window she saw a bunch of light smoke. She couldn't tell what house it was."

The home is a total loss.
