MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin Rep. John Nygren has filed a legal challenge accusing state election officials of improperly deciding to toss his name from the ballot in an upcoming recall election.
The Marinette Republican filed nomination paperwork last week to challenge Democratic state Sen. Dave Hansen of Green Bay this summer.
Nygren had to submit valid signatures from 400 voters in the senate district. He filed 424, but the state Democratic Party challenged 39.
The state Government Accountability Board upheld most of the challenges Monday, leaving Nygren two signatures shy of the minimum requirement. That meant Nygren's name wouldn't appear on the ballot.
Nygren challenged that decision Tuesday. In court filings, he says he wasn't given enough time to respond to the challenges.
A GAB spokesman declined to comment.
