LA CROSSE, Wis. -- A jury in the case of one of two men charged in the shooting death of La Crosse woman will hear about the possibility of another suspect involved in the shooting.
Pao Choua Vue is scheduled to stand trial August 20 for the death of 20-year-old Sara Hougom March 26 at her apartment on Division Street.
Pao Choua Vue and Kong Vue are both charged with first-degree intentional homicide and with attempted first-degree intentional homicide in a drive-by shooting on Island Street just minutes before the Division Street shooting.
Kong Vue told investigators he went into Hougom's apartment to steal money and shot in Hougom's direction before running away. Hougom died a short time later at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.
At a hearing Tuesday, Judge Todd Bjerke allowed a motion by Pao Choua Vue's attorney to introduce evidence at trial that a juvenile may have been involved in the shooting.
Attorney John Brinckman says the juvenile told police he shot Sara Hougom. Prosecutors say some of the juvenile's statements do no match up with information gathered in the investigation.
Judge Bjerke also denied a motion to have an out-of-county jury selected for Pao Choua Vue's trial.
Kong Vue is scheduled for a hearing August 30.
