New record set for La Crosse Salvation Army's Match Day
It's a new record for the La Crosse Salvation Army's annual red kettle drive.
Nearly $54,000 was put into the kettles on Saturday which was the second annual Match Day.
An anonymous donor had agreed to match up to $50,000, but the Salvation Army told News 8 they may match the full donation total.
The number almost doubles last year's record of $28,000. "We're very grateful to the community for stepping up and putting their gifts in, we're very grateful for the donor for matching this, it's just unprecendented in our history and it's certainly going to go a long way in helping people," said Julie Nelson from the Salvation Army.
There's another Match Day this Saturday courtesy of local individuals and businesses. The kettles will be out through Christmas Eve.
