New owner of Port Edwards mill exploring options
The Ohio company that has purchased the shuttered Domtar paper mill in central Wisconsin says the 192-acre site is well positioned for new warehouse and light manufacturing opportunities.
Since Domtar closed the mill nearly five years ago and eliminated 500 jobs, Port Edwards officials have been working toward redeveloping the site. DMI Acquisitions of Columbus, Ohio is working with village officials to identify potential uses for the property located along the Wisconsin River.
The Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune says the transaction does not include the hydroelectric facilities on the river. Domtar will continue to use the hydroelectric power for its Nekoosa paper mill. The papermaker employs about 450 in Nekoosa and 400 in Rothschild.
Terms of the transaction with DMI were not disclosed.
