A new childcare facility in Sparta opens its doors
almost a year after the community lost one of its

The closing of the Childfirst Center in Sparta last
year left nearly 50 families without a daycare provider.
a new daycare center called 'Growing Stars Childhood
Development Center' opened its doors in the same building.
And it's providing much relief to both parents and

They're very excited that we're opening.
But for former manager Jennifer Eitland.
who had spent 22 years at the old facility.
it was not long ago that this place had no children
It was a very dark, dreary kind of day.
There was - we just knew when the doors closed at
that was going to be the end.
Leaving nearly 50 parents without child care.
Some of them were just scrambling around.
In the months that followed.
Scott and Michelle Schultz began working to purchase
We saw that it had went up for sale, and we were calling
When Childfirst closed last year.
the company said in a statement to News 8.
that declining use of large daycare facilities was
a big reason behind the site's closure.
But according to staff.
that demand is still high.
We do see the demand, and I think now that we're open,
with opening day today, I think we'll see more kids
I've seen lots of people look for childcare the whole
time that they have been closed.
Eitland was left without a job.
she is once again home.
I don't know, there's just something that makes it
I just spent so many years here that its hard not
to be here.
And it's giving these kids...

a home during the day.
It feels good to help out the community.
The center is not completely full just yet.
There are still a few openings for parents.
The owners said they are also looking for more staff
for the building in the coming weeks as well.
What is the total capacity for the facility?
When the Schultz's took over.
they did a number of improvements to the facility.
including a new camera system.
And as of now.
they have increased their total capacity to 88.
