TOMAH, Wis. -- A Missouri man appears in court for a seven-hour standoff with authorities at a Tomah hotel.

22-year-old Kenneth Roark is being held on a $500 cash bond after his appearance Monday afternoon in Monroe County Court.

Officers used chemicals to flush Roark out of a room and arrest him at the Super 8 at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities were called to the hotel after Roark, who may have been intoxicated, was seen with a firearm.

Tomah Police, along with the Monroe County SWAT team and Wisconsin State Patrol, sealed off the hotel and tried unsuccessfully to talk with Roark for seven hours before they forced him from his room.

Formal charges against Roark are expected to be filed Tuesday, or Wednesday.
