Onalaska’s Kate Gorman is getting ready for her shot at the Miss America crown.
Friends and family gathered earlier Sunday on the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse campus to send her off to Las Vegas. That's where the Miss America pageant will be held in two weeks.
Gorman is a graduate of Onalaska High School and UW-La Crosse. She's trying to make it back-to-back wins for Wisconsin. Gorman took over Miss Wisconsin from Laura Kaeppeler, who won Miss America last year.
"I am so proud to follow Laura and hope to build on all the momentum that she has built as Miss America," Gorman said. "She has been a phenomenal leader for this organization and a phenomenal representative for the state of Wisconsin so I'm looking to just further her success."
Gorman will spend about a week in Las Vegas leading up to the competition. She was going to tap dance at the pageant but hurt her hip and had to change her talent to signing.
