Minnesota redistricting would pit Bachmann, McCollum
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Republican U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann says she will seek re-election to her old 6th District seat after newly drawn congressional maps threw her home into a district currently represented by a Democratic incumbent.
Running in the 4th District would have matched Bachmann against U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum, a six-term incumbent and the state's only other female U.S. representative. But Bachmann says the newly drawn 6th District is still comprised of what she calls "the heart" of the district she was first elected to represent in 2006.
The redistricting is done every 10 years to reflect population shifts.
