Minnesota man pleads guilty to sex assault of girl, 4
A 22-year-old Richfield man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting his friend's 4-year-old daughter has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Edgar Rafael Morales declined to speak before he was sentenced Wednesday. He pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Prosecutors say Morales had been invited to stay at the girl's Minneapolis home last December after he'd gone drinking with her father that evening.
A Minneapolis Star Tribune report says the girl's grandmother heard the girl cry and saw Morales leaving her room. Authorities say the girl appeared to have been sexually assaulted.
Defense attorney Paul Edlund says even though his client admits that evidence points to his guilt, he didn't remember assaulting the girl because of how much he'd had to drink.
