BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) -- A lawyer who had served as a vice president and provost at the University of Minnesota is going to become the next president of the University of Vermont.

UVM announced Wednesday that E. Thomas Sullivan had been chosen as the university's 26th president.

Sullivan is going to be introduced to the UVM community on Wednesday.

He will succeed Dan Fogel, who took office in 2002 and resigned Aug. 1. John Bramley, former UVM provost and professor, has been serving as interim president since Fogel's resignation.

The 63-year-old Sullivan is recognized as a national authority on antitrust law. He has written 10 books and more than 50 articles.

Sullivan is due to take office on July 15.
