MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A piece of steel from the World Trade Center is expected to get to Milwaukee Thursday.
It will be unveiled during a ceremony Sunday at the Milwaukee County War Memorial's to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The piece will later become part of the memorial's collection.
Joseph Campbell, president of West Allis' Machinery and Welder Corporation and a Vietnam veteran, is driving a company truck to New York to get the steel and bring it to Milwaukee. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports it was originally expected to arrive Friday but the schedule changed.
The War Memorial, Milwaukee Art Museum, Veterans Board, and Milwaukee Fire and Police unions decided in late 2009 to pursue creating a local memorial and determined the War Memorial was the best location.
