Mason City has completed the purchase of its 170th property, ending the buyouts that followed the devastating flooding of June 2008.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that city flood plain administrator Tricia Sandahl told the City Council on Tuesday night that the paperwork won't be completed until at least late in 2014.
Sandahl and her staff have acquired properties and gotten the structures demolished, helped residents find new homes and worked with several government agencies.
She says six separately funded programs have provided money for the buyouts. Demolitions have been accomplished through eight different programs.
Sandahl says that of the 170 properties, 163 were single-family residences, one was a two-family residence, four were commercial properties and two were vacant lots.
