Marshall County Courthouse bell may ring soon
After several years of silence, the Marshall County Courthouse bell may soon ring again.
County buildings and grounds director Todd Kelley told officials Tuesday that he likely would ask a Minnesota company to affix a new ringer to the bell so it could resume ringing.
The Times-Republican reports Mechanical Watch Supply of Minneapolis estimated the job would cost $4,478 and be completed in about a month.
The county stopped ringing the bell several years ago because of complaints and mechanisms that didn't work correctly.
Several weeks ago, county supervisors called for resuming the bell ringing.
Supervisors are leaning toward having the bell ring on the hour during the day and being silent at night, but they haven't made a final decision.
