LA CROSSE, Wis. -

La Crosse police arrested a 24-year-old man in connection to a shooting earlier this month.

Police say the case goes back to March 12 when Michael Jameson, 21, was treated at Gundersen Lutheran for a gunshot wound to the back of his neck. Police say he gave the wrong address of where the shooting took place and he would not say who shot him.

On Tuesday, La Crosse police arrested William Petty in connection to the shooting, which took place at an apartment on the 1500 block of South 11th Street.

La Crosse police say several tips to Crime Stoppers led to Petty's arrest. He was charged in La Crosse County Court on Wednesday with possession of a firearm by a felon, injury by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon and felony intimidation of a witness. A judge set a $50,000 cash bond for Petty.

If anyone has additional information about this incident, you're asked to call the La Crosse Police Department (608) 785-5962 or La Crosse Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 784-8477.
