VILLAGE of WAUZEKA, Wis. -

Deputies arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of burglarizing four Crawford County bars early Wednesday morning.

Authorities say Cody Wells, 28, of Gotham, Wisconsin, was charged with four counts of felony burglary, resisting arrest and obstructing an officer.

At about 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the sheriff’s department got a call from someone in the Village of Wauzeka that there was a suspicious vehicle parked near his home with cardboard covering the license plates. When deputies arrived, they found a large amount of liquor and beer in the 1996 Jeep Cherokee.

As deputies began checking the businesses around Wauzeka, they found that the Sportsman’s Lounge had been burglarized. When they checked inside, they found a masked person wearing black clothing and carrying a backpack. He ran from behind the bar. Deputies say they were forced to use a stun gun on the suspect and arrested him.

While investigating this crime, the sheriff’s department received reports that Carol’s Bar and Grill of Wauzeka, the Horsehoe Tavern of rural Qauzeka, and the Captain’s Daughter Bar of Eastman had also been burglarized. All money and merchandise taken during the burglaries have been recovered.

Wells is being held in the Crawford County Jail on a parole violation and a $10,000 cash bond.
