Local political leaders team up to help kids
Two local political leaders—one Democrat and one Republican—are teaming up to start, "Together for Toys: A Bipartisan Benefit for Toys for Tots."
The event benefits the La Crosse Jaycees Toys for Tots program, which provides toys to families in need this holiday season.
Julian Bradley, the 2012 Chair of the La Crosse County Republican Party, and Andrew Londre, a La Crosse County Board Supervisor and 2011 Chair of the La Crosse County Democratic Party are encouraging Republicans and Democrats from the Coulee Region to donate toys.
The idea came up after Bradley wrote a letter to the La Crosse Tribune about leaders working together. Londre read it and reached out to Bradley about teaming up. The two decided it was perfect timing given the last two years of intense campainging in the state.
"Now that it's finally over, it's really time for us to come together in this community because we can all come together and do really good things," Londre said.
"The time for competition is over," Bradley said. "The elections are over. It's been a very long two years here in Western Wisconsin. People just want to see people come together for good, and that's what we're doing."
The Together for Toys: A Bipartisan Benefit for Toys for Tots goes through this Friday. You can drop-off new or gently-used toys at the Black River Beach Neighborhood Center on Rose Street in La Crosse from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
You can also drop off Toys for Tots at News 8, 141 South 6th Street in La Crosse, until November 30.
