A local troop was out scouting for food in La Crosse Saturday.
The local Boy Scouts troop collected 1,097 lbs of food for area food pantries.
The Scouting for Food Drive started a week ago when scouts dropped off empty Festival Foods bags at homes in La Crosse neighborhoods.
On Saturday they were out collecting those bags, now filled with food donations.
Scouts say it's an important way to look out for people in our community who are in need.
"It's really important to donate food because there are many people who are hungry throughout our great La Crosse area and this will give them some food so they don't have to worry about meals for a couple days," said Troop 11 Boy Scout Michael Zernia.
During the month of March, the Feinstein Foundation is providing a matching grant for the Hunger Task Force.
That means the Troop's 1,197 lbs of food will result in a total of 2,208 lbs for area food pantries.
