After years of planning and construction .
the first La Crosse Promise home is now complete .
and ready for move-in day.
The organization held an open house today.
As part of the 'Promise' .
homeowners agree to build or renovate a home in La
Crosse's Powell-Poage-Hamilton or Washburn neighborhoods
in exchange for receiving up to 50-thousand dollars
in college scholarships for their kids.
New homeowner Lissa Carlson says now that construction
is done .
she has high hopes for what's ahead.
I feel very hopeful about the future, building memories
in our new house and also just the future for the
boys with the educational scholarships.
While the completion of the first home is a cause
for celebration .
it was also a bittersweet day for those with the La
Former executive director Jerilyn Dinsmoor passed
away suddenly last month.
Board members say they wish she was able to see her
hard work become reality.
I'm sad that she's not here today to see this because
it is a culmination of her work, and she was very
dedicated to La Crosse Promise.
It's a big day and I'm smiling and sad for her both.
Dinsmoor's vision will continue to live on .
with a second 'Promise' home scheduled to be completed
by December .
and two others under construction.
