Despite four homicides in the city of La Crosse last year, overall violent crime was down.
The latest statistics from the La Crosse Police Department show serious crime, including robberies, assaults, and burglaries, dropped by about 5% compared to 2011.
Those numbers held steady from 2010 to 2011.
However, the number of arrests and drug arrests in the city increased in 2012.
La Crosse Police Lieutenant Patrick Hogan says the numbers are comparable to other trends at the state level, and the community can continue to be a part of the solution.
"If anything happens out in the community, we obviously want their help and support, even with the drug issue, it's a community issue and we obviously need the community's help," says Hogan, "we're kind of all in this together."
Other good news from the report includes a drop in overall theft and an increase in number of crime cleared or solved.
