La Crosse Fitness Festival eliminates marathon event
The La Crosse Fitness Festival is eliminating the marathon event that has only ran for four years.
Event Director Jay Odegaard posted details on Facebook Tuesday about the new Festival Foods Grandad Half Marathon, formally the Festival Foods La Crosse Fitness Festival.
The half marathon course will start on top of Grandad Bluff and finish in Riverside Park.
"We know some of you really enjoyed the marathon (and so did we!) but with the small number of participants, and community inconvenience of road closures, it became a necessary decision for us to cancel the event," Odegaard said on the La Crosse Fitness Festival's Facebook page. "Our overall goal is to put on a successful event with multiple activities for the La Crosse community that focuses on healthy lifestyles and to ultimately raise money for our charities."
Other events including the, Three Rivers 5K Run/Walk, Riverside Youth Races, La Crosse Omnium, and the Coulee Region Bike Tour, will still be continued.
The half marathon and 5K races will be held on Saturday, May 4, both finishing in Riverside Park.
The 2013 event will continue to benefit the same great charities including the St. Clare Health Mission, the Youth Enrichment Association (Y.E.A), and Special Recreation of La Crosse.
Registration for the running events and bike tours opens November 1, 2012.
