DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- A Polk County judge has set a $500,000 bond for a man who was granted a new trial in a 1996 murder case in Des Moines.

The Des Moines Register says the judge set the bond on Wednesday for David Flores. He was convicted of killing a woman during a rolling gunbattle between rival gangs.

Flores, who is serving a life sentence for killing Phyllis Davis, is waiting to see whether the Iowa Supreme Court will interfere with a lower court decision granting a new trial.

In his order, Judge Joel Novak says Flores is a flight risk and the $500,000 bond is appropriate.
