Less than a month from Election Day .
Senator Ron Johnson and challenger Russ Feingold face
off in their first debate.
The two took the stage earlier tonight in Ashwaubenon
in a debate organized by the Wisconsin Broadcasters
Some of the topics included the presidential race
gun control .
and national security.
The two also battled over the rising costs of healthcare.
Feingold says he was proud to be one of the deciding
votes in the Affordable Care Act .
but Johnson says rising costs are showing it isn't
Prior to Obamacare here in Wisconsin, 95% of Wisconsinites
were covered by insurance.

This hasn't had an impact other than people lost healthcare
they could afford, they're losing access to doctors,
and premiums have doubled and tripled.
It's not perfect, and believe me, I agree deductibles
and others have got to come down.
We need to act, and if I have the opportunity to be
the senator of this state I'd actually act on this.
The two also accused their opponent of not doing enough
to prevent the over-prescription scandal at the Tomah
When asked what they would do to improve veteran care
in the state .
including the possibility of partially privatizing
the V-A system.
I am totall supportive of choice for veterans, allow
them access to private sector health care that's close
There are problems, and they need to be improved.
But I guarantee you, most of the veterans in this
state want to make sure that this program continues
as a federally-guaranteed program.
The most recent poll from Marquette University shows
the race between Feingold and Johnson as a dead heat
with Feingold's lead among likely voters slipping
to just two points in the past month.
That lead is within the poll's margin of error of
about 4 percent.
