JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) -

Investigators in Janesville did not find any evidence after a week of digging up an undeveloped lot in search of the remains of an 8-year-old girl who went missing 66 years ago.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports Friday that law enforcement officers from the Rock and Jefferson county sheriff's departments along with Janesville police dug four feet deep across a 1,100-square-foot lot. Rock County Sheriff's Capt. Todd Christiansen says all they found was dirt, clay and tree roots. He says search dogs picked up no scent of remains.

A recent tipster said remains of Georgia Jean Weckler could be found at the site. She was abducted from near her family farm near Cambridge on May 1, 1947. The case has led to many false leads over the years.
