Dozens of teenage girls have gathered in eastern Iowa for a bargain hunt to find the perfect prom dress.
The annual "Recycle the Dress" event on Saturday in Muscatine offered free prom dresses and accessories. Now in its third year, the event is considered a huge success.
The Muscatine Journal reports the dresses and other used items are donated by the community. Organizer Laura Liegois, who is also the city's solid waste manager, says everything is free so customers can learn the value of reusing things.
Liegois says the annual event has been recognized outside of Muscatine. The state's solid waste group recently named it Iowa's most innovative solid waste management project of the year.
Leftover dresses will be donated to Goodwill and local theater groups.
