DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) -- A Dubuque-based architectural-engineering firm has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as it looks for new ownership.

Attorney Joe Peiffer filed the petition last week for Durrant Group. Peiffer says the company hopes to emerge from bankruptcy in about 60 days.

He says Durrant Group is talking to several firms about purchasing all of Durrant.

The company has offices in Des Moines, Denver, Phoenix, and San Diego and Fresno in California.

Peiffer says Durrant "was in the process of getting right-sized" in 2008 when the economic downturn magnified its problems.

Durrant's bankruptcy petition says the company's debts and assets are both between $1 million and $10 million and that there are between 1,000 and 5,000 creditors.
