WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) -

A grand jury has declined to indict a Waterloo police officer who fatally shot a man during a chase.

A news release from Black Hawk County Attorney Thomas Ferguson's office says the jury heard five days of testimony before making a decision on Officer Kyle Law. Law shot 22-year-old Derrick Ambrose Jr. on Nov. 18 last year.

The Iowa Criminal Division of Investigation says the incident happened near New World Lounge in Waterloo. Investigators say Law reported seeing Ambrose with a gun outside the bar and then chased Ambrose when he ran. Law said he thought Ambrose still had the gun when Ambrose turned toward him, so Law fired two rounds.

Law said he didn't see Ambrose toss the gun away during the chase. It was found nearby.
