Iowa boy, 10, fatally injured by falling tree
A 10-year-old boy has died after being struck by a falling tree near his home in southeast Iowa.
The Hawk Eye reports that Garrett Brockway, of Brockway, died Wednesday at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He'd been taken there after the accident Sunday morning.
The Des Moines County Sheriff's Office says Garrett was with his father, Bruce Brockway, while his dad was clearing trees near their home.
Lt. Clint Williams says a tree Bruce Brockway was removing with an excavator knocked over another tree, which knocked over a third tree that struck Garrett in his head.
The sheriff's office says the incident has been ruled an accident.
Bruce Brockway says Garrett was "a tremendous gift" to him and his wife, Tiffini.
