ANKENY, Iowa (AP) -

Jarret Hovick couldn't wait to join his parents, so he arrived in the front seat of the family car that his dad had stopped along Interstate 35 in Ankeny.

Des Moines television station KCCI reports that Steven and Rebecca had left their Ames home Saturday night, headed to a hospital in Des Moines.

The closer they got to Des Moines, the nearer Jarret drew to birth. His father lost the race after exiting at the First Street ramp to Ankeny and stopping. With a lot of pushing from his mother and a little guidance from dad, out came Jarret, who weighed nearly 8 pounds and 3 ounces.

Jarret and mom Rebecca have already left the hospital and gone home.
