Iowa assessor says 'home inspectors' are impostors
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) -- The Cedar Rapids Assessor's Office is warning residents that they might be approached by someone purporting to be an assessor employee who insists on conducting home inspections.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the office has received two such reports in the past two weeks.
Cedar Rapids police Sergeant Cristy Hamblin says those residents did not let the impersonators inspect their homes, and police have no suspects in the case.
The assessor's office says its employees carry city photo identification badges that are displayed on the outside of their clothing and inspect properties between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
