Pregnant women typically take extra precautions when it comes to their bodies, but what about intense exercise?
Doctors say all healthy women with uncomplicated pregnancies should participate in daily exercise to prepare them for labor and the impending stress of caring for a newborn.
In the past, doctors warned there dangers associated intense exercise but new research from the British Journal of Medicine suggests otherwise.
The study says intense exercise may reduce excessive birth weight without boosting the risk of the baby being overweight.
Doctors say women should still be careful while working out.
"For women that are exercising during pregnancy, we want them to keep an eye on their heart rates so that they're not too high and making sure that they're well hydrated during their exercise," Mayo Clinic certified nurse midwife Theresa Hagen said.
Pregnant women should stop exercising and call a doctor if they experience any shortness of breath, bleeding, dizziness or swelling.
