Hwy. 35 reconstruction project in Onalaska on schedule
ONALASKA, Wis.-- Major road construction on Highway 35 in Onalaska remains on schedule.
The Onalaska city engineer says the state highway project is moving along well despite some archeological delays. The contractor has been able to re-work the construction plans to keep the project moving forward.
This is good news especially for downtown businesses. "The businesses in the downtown area have been affected by the project as we informed them they would be. The businesses have been able to gain local access. I think anytime we have a construction project of this magnitude, it affects the business. But we've been trying to minimize that as much as we have been able to," said Onalaska City Engineer Jarrod Holter.
Traffic is also moving freely through the construction zone. The Highway 35 detour which began in April was taken off the road last week.
The new light poles, planters and brick pavers are starting to be installed.
The whole project is expected to be done in November.
