CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) -

Kirkwood Community College says a speech by a survivor of the Holocaust has been cancelled because of a flight delay.

Renee Firestone had been scheduled to speak Tuesday at Kirkwood's campus in Cedar Rapids about her experience being imprisoned in a German death camp during World War II.

The college said Tuesday that Firestone's flight from Denver to Iowa has been delayed due to weather conditions in Colorado. The speech may be rescheduled for a later date.

Firestone, a native of Czechoslovakia, was 20 when she was imprisoned at Auschwitz for 13 months. She was freed in 1945 and reunited with her brother and soon-to-be-husband.

Firestone says she has devoted thousands of hours educating students about her experiences. She appeared in the 1998 Academy Award-winning documentary "The Last Days."
