ONALASKA, Wis. -

Many people were busy buying those last minute gifts this weekend.

The manager at the ShopKo in Onalaska told News 8 there are really two seasons within the holiday shopping season.

Steve Bluske says the first is around Black Friday and then things slow down a bit. The second phase is the 10 days leading up to Christmas.

Based on what he's seen as his store, Bluske says this year's sales could be a good sign about the economy.

"I think as a general statement, the customers have been fantastic," Bluske said. "I think people feel more confident about the money they have in their own pocket and are able to go out and spend freeer during the holidays and not worry about the bills that are coming due in January."

The holiday shopping season isn't over quite yet. Next, there's the post-Christmas rush with people returning items.
