Here's a look at the 8 things you need to know today...
The calendar might have us preparing for winter storms.
but mother nature is giving us an extended fall.
While we may be enjoying the warmer temperatures.
others are finding some disadvantages to the late
start to winter.
News 8's Sarah Thamer has the story.
Wisconsinites know what to expect in November.
and 60-degree weather isn't typically on the top of
Although many in La Crosse aren't complaining about
being able to walk or jog outside even months after
depending on where you work.
the sunshine isn't always good for business.
Well my goodness! At least I'm not worried about slippin
in the snow! I wouldn't be out if it were a bad day
If you've lived in Wisconsin during the winter, you
know November is usually when the lawn mowers are
put away and the snow shovels are back to work.
But not this year.
It would be nice if winter would start to show up
Because for businesses like Mount La Crosse, success
is measured by low temperatures and lots of snow.
Business, it was a tough year last year, and we're
gonna be recovering from that for a little while,
we didn't get open until right after christmas last
year, and the weather was pretty similar to now so
we're a little bit nervous.
And although sunshine and 60 degrees is not much to
complain about during November in the midwest, Breidel
says a business like hers takes a big loss from a
late start to winter.
When we don't get open until after christmas obviously
we lose the whole month of december and then the three
month operation, that's pretty catastrophic.
And businesses like Ace Hardware, are also noticing
Especially snow blower sales really really bang at
the first snow.
Klein says he hasn's sold one snow shovel or snow
But surprisingly enough, some other sales are making
up for the loss.
We've been selling a lot of grass seeds especially,
fall is a great time to plan grass seeds so they've
been able to do that later.
And for those who work mostly outside, warmer temperatures
are something to celebrate.
Able to get a lot more work done later on in the season,
keeping more guys employed which is always good, keeping
the economy going around here, not having to fight
through all the freezing conditions, it just makes
it a little easier.
Although most people don't mind the nice weather.
some *hunters* that I also talked to today say they
are hoping for snow as soon as possible.
For a business like Mount La Crosse.
if mother nature doesn't bring us much snow soon.
what is their plan?
They will start making their own snow.
In fact, they're already preparing and they have workers
getting all the snow making euqipment ready to go,
they're just waiting on the temperatures to drop.
