The heavy rain also caused a train derailment near
which is about 25 miles north of Prairie du Chien...

An apparent track washout,,,caused five cars and two
locomotives to derail.
A spokesperson for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway
the incident caused about one thousand gallons of
diesel fuel from a ruptured fuel tank to leak into
the Mississipi river.
Two of the derailed tanker cars were empty...the others
were carrying wallboard.
Those who live near the train tracks..say they heard
the derailment at about five o'clock this morning.
t was just a big crash, and it just sounded like all
the cars were crashing together.
Following today's derailment...Wisconsin Representative
Ron Kind released a statement this morning calling
on the House to immediately
pass his rail safety legislation.
The Act would establish a committe working under FEMA's
National Advisory Council to bring the resources and
training needed to our communities.
No one was injured in today's incident...but crews
were transported to a local hospital as a precaution.
B-N-S-F says when it's safe to get on the river because
of the high water.
they'll place a boom on the river to try to capture
the diesel fuel.
