LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center is among the top hospitals in the nation for emergency medicine, according to a report released Tuesday morning.

HealthGrades says Gundersen Lutheran is among 263 hospitals performing in the top 5% nationally after reviewing more than seven million Medicare patient records from 2008 to 2010.

Gundersen Lutheran is among seven medical centers statewide to receive the recognition.

HealthGrades says more than 200 million people use their services to get and compare information about health care providers and services. The company says their rankings are independently created, and that hospitals cannot opt-in, or opt-out of being rated, or pay to be rated.
